I want you to get good knowledge from Rehab After Work . On the 12th April 2011 my horse tore the deep digital flexor tendon in his front left leg just below his fetlock. He was lame for 10 days before we got the vet as he wasnt badly lame, no heat or swelling were present and no other obvious signs of injury. 10 days later when he failed to come sound I decided to call the vet. They came out, did a trot work up and decided nerve blocks were the only way to pin point where the pain was coming from as they couldnt see anything obvious either, they had no idea what was wrong! 4 days later (ish) on 26th April 2011 he went into the clinic and had more trot work ups, x rays and scans. Vets diagnosed him with a tear to his DDFT, they didnt tell me if it was severe or not but the prognosis didnt sound too great.....my world totally fell apart! 2 days before he went lame we won ridden champion and were due to go to an Equifest qualifier......and also do some more SJ....our plans for the summer were blown away in a few seconds!! I came to terms with not being able to ride him, and the box rest began with 10minutes in hand walkig straight away from 4 weeks also with 4 weekly shock wave treatments and cartophen injections to try and help the tendon heal. He started his box rest in a very small pen outside but 4 weeks in he got cast and trashed his legs, luckily for us both they were only supervicial grazes and didnt require a vet. He was/is 100% sound in walk and trot while on box rest and to this day (3 months on from injury) he is still ...
